PORTABLE ARC
JF & SON and Travis Boyer’s MFT are proud to present robbinschilds’ Portable Arc: a structured improvisational happening of trans-genre wearables that celebrate the artists’ commitment to rainbow living.
The Portable Arc performance will take place on May 20, at 7pm, at the JF STOREFRONT, 56 University Place, New York City.
Portable Arc will be available for sale as a collection of versatile tops, skirts, short pants, and head wraps in bright colors designed with today’s movement artist in mind. Layla Childs, Sonya Robbins and Travis Boyer designed the collection as a conversation about performative clothing, with specific reference to the collaboration between Martha Graham and Isamu Noguchi, Appalachian Spring, of 1944. Like that work, Portable Arc uses pleats, ruffles, and floppy bias cuts to highlight movement and the subtle play of air and textile that surrounds the dancer.
The Portable Arc performance incorporates movement, textile, and sound design and will showcase the new custom apparel collection created with JF & Son. The event will run approximately 30 minutes. Joining robbinschilds are performers Rebecca Brooks, Sarah White-Ayon, and Travis Boyer.
